WHY I RUN: FEY LATUNJI

BY Jake Portner
"During difficult runs I try to remind myself that I’ve still probably gotten more out of running than I’ve given it yet!"
Fey’s journey with running is simple. But in that simplicity is a beautiful message that most runners will resonate with. What started as a stress reliever has since compounded and grown ever deeper. We sat down with her to understand the what and the why of her running experience.
Why did you start to run?
I initially started to run as a stress reliever and a way of processing thoughts. More recently, the main motivation has been around connecting with the amazing run community - which has made it such an important part of routine. What does running mean to you?
Running has given me so many connections, notably through my communities.Your Friendly Runners has been a weekly motivation for a few years and the amazing women from Hot Boys Athletics have been a constant inspiration for me to keep pushing myself.
I was never very sporty at school and never thought I could be so I’m glad to have been able to do things I never thought I’d be able to.
During difficult runs I try to remind myself that I’ve still probably gotten more out of running than I’ve given it yet!
Your favourite route?
Anything involving a Victoria Park loop! I’ve got pretty much a perfect 5k distance and so many entrances in and out to extend.Your favourite distance?
Outside of any training, I’ve really been enjoying 10k distances. It gives enough time to zone out but still possible to squeeze into the week. It’s also a great distance for a catch up! Your Friendly Runners is the home of 10 before 10, so it's become such an important routine.
